ABSTRACT
MembersoftheFleischnerSocietycompiledaglossaryoftermsforthoracicimagingthat
replacespreviousglossariespublishedin1984and1996forthoracicradiographyandcomputed
tomography(CT),respectively.Theneedtoupdatethepreviousversionscamefromtherecognition
thatnewwordshaveemerged,othershavebecomeobsolete,andthemeaningofsometermshaschanged.
Briefdescriptionsofsomediseasesareincluded,andpictorialexamples(chestradiographsand
CTscans)areprovidedforthemajorityofterms.
INTRODUCTION
ThepresentglossaryisthethirdpreparedbymembersoftheFleischnerSocietyandreplaces
theglossariesoftermsforthoracicradiology(1)andCT(2),respectively.Theimpetustocombine
andupdatethepreviousversionscamefromtherecognitionthatwiththerecentdevelopmentsin
imagingnewwordshavearrived,othershavebecomeobsolete,andthemeaningofsometermshas
changed.Theintentionofthislatestglossaryisnottobeexhaustivebuttoconcentrateonthose
terms
