Abstract
RecyclingEnd-Of-Life(EOL)Lithium-IonBatteries(LIBs)allowsmaterialstoberecoveredforcostslowerthanby
rawextraction,makingitanattractiveoptionforboostingtheeconomy.RecyclingLIBsreducescosts,energy,and
greenhouse-gas(GHG)emissions,whichareprimarilybasedaroundtheeconomyandenvironment,buttherearealso
varioussocialaspectsthatcanbeimprovedthroughthispractice,whichwefocusoninthispaper.Theaimofthis
paperistogiveinformationabouttheindustrialrecyclingprocesscurrentlybeingusedglobally,andtoanalysehow
recyclingLIBsbenefitssocietythroughmeansofcreatingjobsintheCanadianjobmarket.

1.Introduction
DuetotherisingindustryofLIBsbecauseoftheirusageinEVs,thenumberofEOLLIBsiscurrentlyincreasing
rapidly,andthus,correcthandlingofthesebatteriesbecomesanecessity.Thisincludessafedisposalandtherecycling
ofvaluablemetals,likelithium,copper,cobalt,andaluminum.Lithiuminparticulardoesnothaveaviablesubstitute
inbatteries,whichwouldcauseproblemsifsupplyweretobecomescarce.Recyclingisthereforeafeasiblesolution
tosuchanissue.(Zeng,2014;Viecelietal.,2018)
Recyclingitselfisnotaseasyasitseems;however,asthemanydifferentmaterialsineachbattery
