BeforewestartourjourneyintotheinternalsofSpringMVC,wefirstneed
tounderstandthedifferentlayersofawebapplication.Andwe’llbeginthat
discussionwithabriefintroductionoftheMVCpatterningeneral,including
whatitisandwhyshouldweuseit.AfterreviewingtheMVCPattern,wewillgo
throughthedifferentlayersinawebapplicationandseewhatroleeachlayer
playsintheapplication.
TheModelViewControllerpattern(MVCpattern)wasfirstdescribedby
TrygveReenskaugwhenhewasworkingonSmalltalkatXerox.Atthattime,the
patternwasaimedatdesktopapplications.Thispatterndividesthepresentation
layerintodifferentkindsofcomponents.Eachcomponenthasitsown
responsibilities.Theviewusesthemodeltorenderitself.Basedonauseraction,
theviewtriggersthecontroller,whichinturnupdatesthemodel.Themodelthen
notifiestheviewto(re)renderitself.
TheMVCpatternisallaboutseparationofconcerns.Aswementioned
previously,eachcomponenthasitsownrole(seeTable3-1).
Separationofconcernsisimportantinthepresentationlayerbecauseit
helpsuskeepthedifferentcomponentsclean.Thisway,wedon’tburdenthe
actualviewwithbusinesslogic,navigationlogic,andmodeldata.Followingthis
approachkeepseverythingnicelyseparated,whichmakesiteasiertomaintain
andtestourapplication.
WhatIsMVC：
MVCisadesignpatternthatbreaksanapplicationintothreeparts:the
data(Model),
thepresentationlayer(View),andtheuserinteractionlayer(Controller).In
other
words,theeventflowgoeslikethis:
1.Theuserinteractswiththeapplication.
