2.4.8SRM“A”Profile

TheSRM“A”profileisshowninFig.2.11.Itretainsallthefavourablefeaturesofthe

symmetricprofilelikeitssimplicitywhileavoidingitsmaindisadvantage,namely,thelarge

blow-holearea.Themaingoalofreducingtheblowholeareawasachievedbyallowingthetip

pointsofthemainandgaterotorstogeneratetheircounterparts,trochoidsonthegateandmain

rotorrespectively.T-he“A”profileconsistsmainlyofcirclesonthegaterotorandonelinewhich

passesthroughthegaterotoraxis.Thesetofprimarycurvesconsistsof:D2C2,whichisacircle

onthegaterotorwiththecentreonthegatepitchcircle,andC2B2,whichisacircleonthegate

rotor,thecentreofwhichliesoutsidethepitchcircleregion.Thiswasanewfeaturewhich

imposedsomeproblemsinthegenerationofitsmainrotorcounterpart,becausethemathematics

usedforprofilegenerationattha-ttimewasinsufficientforgeneralgearing.Thiseccentricity

ensuredthatthepressureanglesonth-erotorpitchesdifferfromzero,resultinginitseaseof

manufacture.SegmentBAisacircleonth-egaterotorwithitscentreonthepitchcircle.Theflat

lobesidesonthemainandgaterotorswere

generatedasepi/hypocycloidsbypointsGonthegateandHonthemainrotorrespectively.
