阿里联手美国P2P巨头助美企采购中国零部件
Thecompaniesbehindtwoofthehotteststockmarketdebutsof2014,LendingClubandtheAlibabaGroup,areteamingup—tohelpAmericancompaniesbuypartsfromChinesemanufacturers.
ThetwoannouncedonTuesdaythattheywouldformapartnershiptoprovidefinancingformanufacturersintheUnitedStatestobuyproductsandsuppliesthroughtheChinesemarketplaceA.ThroughLendingClub,thegiantoftheonlinemarketplacelendingindustry,thosecompaniescanlineupfrom$5,000toasmuchas$300,000foreachpurchaseorder.
It’sanunusualmovemeantinparttoreplacetraditionalbusinesssupply
-chainborrowing,atleastforthesmall-tomedium-sizebusinessesthatlooktoAlibabaforaportionoftheirmanufacturing.Ratherthanhavetorelyonbanksorothertraditionallenderswhorequirecollateralfortheirfinancing
,thesecustomerscaninsteaduseLendingClub’ssystemstoprocureanunsecuredloanwithnear-instantapproval.
“ThispartnershipisgoingtomakeaprettybigdifferenceintermsofU.S.business’abilitytobuygoodsfromChina,”RenaudLaplanche,thechiefexecutiveofLendingClub,saidinatelephoneinterview.
Anditisaunifyingoftwoofthemosttalked-aboutonlinemarketplacesofthemoment.AlibabaisoneofChina’sbiggestInternetcompanies,whosemultipleplatforms—includingA,whichismeantforwholesalepurchas
es—drawmillionsofcustomers.AndLendingClubhelpeddefinewhatoncewasknownaspeer-to-peerlending,inwhichpotentialinvestorscangoonlinetobematchedwithhopefulborrowers.
Theloansforthenewventure,tobecalled“Ae-CreditLine,PoweredbyLendingClub,”comesatlowerinterestratesthanwhatotherscanprovide.AccordingtoMr.Laplanche,thenewventureoffersamonthlyinterestratestartingat0.5percent,abouthalfofwhatamoretraditionallendercouldprovide.
