THE CASE METHOD  For thefirst time learning in my life is relevant and actuallyfun.  By putting myself in the shoes of various decision makers, I am rehearsingfor myfuture career.  This is notfiction. These cases are real. I get a chance to learnfirsthand and to practice all kinds of skills I will need on thejob. WHAT IS A CASE?  A case is a description of an actual real life situation.  The situation commonly involves a challenge, an opportunity, a problem or an issue faced by a (or s) in an organization.  A decision must be made and you pretend that you are the decision maker.  The business case method was made famous by the Harvard Business School. WHAT IS A CASE?  Cases contain information that was available to the actual decision maker to help make the decision.  You use that same information to make your decision, however, some information you need to make the decision may be unwritten.  For example, the economic, social, political context of the case may simply be implied by the location and date of the case. WHAT IS A CASE?  The unwritten context is almost always relevant to the ysis and solution of the case.  You must use your own context understanding and experience when solving the case.  In other words – what would you do – not what did they do. WHY USE CASES?  Cases provide an opportunity to experience the decisions actually faced by real people; to take ownership, to feel the pressure, to recognize risks.  Cases provide the opportunity to see how theory applies in practice.  Cases develop a wide range of useful skills you will need on the job.
