Background (Charles Dickens) Charles Dickens (1812—1870)is a great British writer. His father was put in prison for debt, so Dickens had to start work when he was very young. He wrote 14 novels and many other short stories in his lifetime. His style is realistic and humorous. He gave a vivid picture of life of ordinary people . His works shows sympathy for the poor. A Christmas Carol(1843)only took a month for Dickens to write. The short story contains a very strong moral about the importance of generosity and compassion and symbolises all the good things of Christmas. What do you think of about Christmas? What happened to the main character? What happened to the hero? Read the text quickly and find out the main characters and their relationship .
