Introduction A.About the author Francis Scott Fitzgerald Francis Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 26, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had an expensive education, first attending the preschool and dancing classes where the elites sent their children, and then Princeton. He left Princeton in 1917 to took an army commission, serving as a lieutenant at a stuff headquarters. During his fifteen-month’s service, the 22-year old Fitzgerald met Zelda Sayre in much the way as Gatsby meets Daisy in The Great Gatsby. After being discharged from the army in 1919, he returned to Princeton only to stay for another year in which he finished the draft of his first novel. In 1921, Fitzgerald married Zelda and they settled on Long Island. In 1925, he produced The Great Gatsby, his best novel, a sensitive and symbolic treatment of themes of contemporary life related with irony and pathos to the legend of the American Dream. This novel was a great success, receiving acclaim from contemporary famous critics. T. S. Eliot praised the novel as?“the first step that American fiction has taken since Henry James”. 1 In the 1930s Fitzgerald’s reputation declined, his wealth fell, his health failed and Zelda suffered from mental illness. Loneliness, combined with alcoholism, ruined him and he died in 1940 of a heart attack. Now he is widely recognized as one of the finest American writers of the 20th century.? B.About the novel The Great Gatsby ???? The Great Gatsby was written by the American author Francis Scott Fitzgerald, who is considered as a member of the Lost Generation of the twenties. It was first published in 1925. The Great Gatsby was considered as a famous work on the unreliability of the American Dream. The novel focused on Gatsby who is from low class but falls in love with Daisy, a pretty girl from high class. Finally she marries a self-centered man, Tom, from her own social strata, w
