They include seat belts, seat belt pre-tensioners and air bags (Shown in Fig.8-1). In a collision，the airbag sensor detects the shock, and if the front-to-rear shock is greater than a specified value，an airbag stored in the steering wheel pad and front passenger airbag assembly are inflated instantaneously. These operations help to reduce the shock to the driver and front passenger. Seat belt pre-tensioners are used to tighten the seatbelt in a severe frontal accident. Front impact sensor A front impact sensor is mounted inside each of the front fenders. The sensor unit is a mechanical type. When the sensor detects deceleration force above a predetermined limit in a collision，the contacts in the sensor make contact, sending a signal to the SRS Control Module．The sensor cannot be disassembled. 2. Airbag assembly Airbag assembly include steering wheel pad airbag assembly and front passenger airbag assembly. Side impact air bags are located in the sides of front seats to protect the occupants from side impacts. The inflator and bag of the SRS are stored in every airbag assembly and cannot be dissembled.
