Were you trying to sleep? -- Yes, and while I think of it – please ask when you borrow the iron. -- I really ought to have known better. Sorry! Dialogue 3: -- Wendy, Id like you to meet my brother, Sam. -- How do you do? -- How do you do? -- What do you think of life in England? -- Im still feeling pretty homesick. -- Its bound to be strange at first. Dialogue 4: -- Its time we were off. -- So soon? Cant you stay a little longer? -- I wish I could, but Im late already. -- What a shame! -- Thank you for a wonderful meal. -- Im glad you enjoyed it. Dialogue 5: -- Sorry, but I didnt quite catch that. -- I said, “Can I give you a lift?” -- Isnt it out of your way? -- No, its on my way home. Dialogue 6: -- I feel shivery and Ive got a pain in my stomach. -- How long have you had it? -- The best part of a week. -- By the sound of it, youve caught a chill. -- What should I do? -- Ill give you something for it, and come to see you in a couple of days. Lesson 18 Dialogue 1: -- Cigarette? -- No, thanks. Not before lunch. -- Please have one. Its a new brand. -- I honestly dont feel like one at the moment, thanks. Dialogue 2: -- I believe you take in foreign students. -- Yes, if you dont mind sharing. -- How much is it? -- Nine pounds per week including heating. -- Do you think I could have a look at it, please? -- Were having it decorated at the moment. Will Friday do? Dialogue 3: -- I wonder whether the dentist could fit me in early tomorrow? -- Im afraid theres nothing before midday. -- How about 12.45? -- Sorry, but thats taken, too. Dialogue 4: -- I was wondering whether you needed any part-timers. -- What were you thinking of? -- A hotel job of some sort. -- Have you ever done anything similar?
