If someone is thin in a pleasant way, we say they are slim or slender, but if they are too thin they are skinny, underweight, or (worst of all) emaciated. The opposite of thin in this sense is fat, but it is not very polite. Plump, overweight, chubby (esp. of babies), and matronly (only of older women) are all more polite way of saying the same thing. ?She looks very thin /underweight /emaciated after her illness. 她生病之后很消瘦/颇为瘦削/瘦骨嶙峋。 —The prisoners were emaciated. 囚犯们骨瘦如柴。 confident adj.
