To make predictions or to anticipate the writer’s next point is an important skill in active reading. Although we may not be able to predict every detail and although a writer may surprise us with unexpected ideas, we can often anticipate the general direction the writer is going. Making predictions while you read keeps your mind alert; it’s a way to double-check your comprehension of what you’ve read so far, and it can be a great aid to understanding what comes next. 课文 自测 技巧 Introduction: Back 课文 自测 技巧 Take a look at the title of Text A. From the title we might predict that the passage will give information to the following questions: 1. Reasons why some people choose to be alone on purpose. 2. Positive results of some people choosing to be alone on purpose. This list can go on. If we read this passage with care, we can find that not all these predictions are met. This is the process which is going on all the time when we are reading something with active understanding.
