Key Trends in the European Construction Industry 我们用三步走的方式理解欧洲建筑业 We started with a brainstorming session: With a number of people from the Energy and DIDS GMTs and two industry experts. Using the input from the discussion and some background research, we found four key trends currently affecting the industry: Companies are facing declining profitability and are therefore extending into other more lucrative parts of the industry value chain. The marketplace is shifting towards the developing countries. Skilled labour is becoming more expensive and harder to come by. Technological trends are changing the way companies work, especially in the area communications and standardisation of construction materials. In order to move forward, we proposed a model that allows us to understand the impact of the trends on this industry: We studied the issues across the value chain of a typical project.
