And Culture is like a vast ocean, there being a lot of color-related words in it. For people all over the world the colors of the rainbow are the same, but this does not necessarily follow that people speaking different languages divide the color spectrum in the same way or use terms that designate the same range of hue.1 Color is a part of our life. Color words help us to understand the world around, like our sense of taste and smell. The color phrase enriches colorful world, have close contact with language, and have a strong cultural content. In addition to the fact that different languages may have different divisions of color, different languages entail different color related associations.And there exist a lot of color words in both Chinese and English. They express the same meaning in both Chinese and English-speaking countries, but there are also many differences. And most of these differences are caused by the two language-speaking countries’ different national histories, religious influences, customs and so on.2 Though there are quite a few color words in both Chinese and English, there are only some common color words that are often used. So it is necessary to understand the differences of these common color words and their cultural backgrounds.
