Halloween万圣节主题介绍中英文

History The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead. The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Otherworld became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. It is believed that the need to scare off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise(扮演) oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm. Origin of name The term Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe’en, is shortened from All Hallows Even – een is a shortening of even, which is a shortening of evening. This is ultimately derived from Old English. It is now known as Eve of All Saints Day, which is November 1st. Myths Folklore If the flame of a candle flickers(摇晃) and then turns blue, theres a spirit in the room. If a bird flies through your house, it indicates(暗示) important news. If it cant get out, the news will be death. If you feel a chill up your spine(脊椎), someone is walking on your future grave. A bat in the house is a sign of death. If a bird flies towards you, bad fortune is imminent(about to happen). If your palm itches, you will soon receive money. If you itch it, your money will never come. A hat on a bed will bring bad luck. A person born on Halloween will have the gift of communicating with the dead. Crows are viewed as a bad omen, often foretelling death. If they caw (cry of a crow), death is very near. If a person experiences great horror, their hair turns white.
