Overview
Welcome to THS AP physics! By choosing to include AP physics in your schedule this
year you have already demonstrated that you have a keen intellect and impeccable taste.
This syllabus will give you some basic information about the course.
This course is equivalent to a 1st semester college Physics course taken by non-math and
physics majors. It requires a considerable amount of effort outside as well as inside the
classroom. Students will design experiments to test hypothesis and derive mathematical
models. Your work will culminate with the AP exam in early May which can earn you
either college credit or a course waiver depending on the college you attend. Students
enrolled in the course are expected to prepare for and take the AP exam.

Apply math and science to everyday experiences
Critically assess problems and identify a correct solution
Apply theory to laboratory experiences
Demonstrate understanding in clear and concise written lab reports

Lab safety agreement –please sign
Laboratory safety is of paramount importance in my classroom. Please read, sign and
return the laboratory safety agreement ASAP. I need this document on file before I can
allow you to work with the lab equipment.
Nuts and bolts
The list of stuff you need for class can be found on my website (email me for the URL). Students
will keep laboratory reports, homework and notes in a 1 subject standard sized spiral bound lab
notebook. You will use a scientific calculator every day so go get one A.S.A.P.
Textbooks:
Primary: Physics Kahuna’ electronic book and homework set – accessed from my
website. If you do not have internet access please bring in a blank CD, DVD or memory
