Humanism ---Hamlet Definition The Theme of The Presentation Conclusion Humanism In a broad sense, humanism suggests any attitude that tends to exalt the hum an element or stress the importance of human interests, as opposed to the supernatural, divine elements or as opposed to the grossed, animal elements; In a more specific sense, it suggests a devotion to those studies, which, in particular, deal with the life, thought, language and literature of human beings, and which are supposed to promote human culture most effectively . The Theme of The Presentation The conflict between Hamlet and Claudius constitutes the main contradiction of the tragedy, which is the internal Feudal Palace struggle superficially. But it reflects conflicts and competition between new, old forces and values of survival actually. Shakespeare carries forward the new humanism, also shows Renaissance advanced humanistic ideals, profound contradictions and fierce struggle among the increasingly declined feudal monarchy by the story of Hamlet’s revenge for father. The Reflection of Theme in the Play Hamlet’s Monologue on Life And Death “To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether ’ tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them?” ~~~ ~~~ This is the most famous section of monologue of Hamlet. The monologue doesn’t prove that Hamlet wants to escape from the responsibility of revenging his dead father by coming to commit suicide. But it has expressed humanism thinker’s thinking of life and death question. Hamlet’s “Craziness” Hamlet’s “craziness” is a kind of strong-spirited and sober-headed craziness. It can make his talk take mysterious color, and it make us feel confused and producing the illusion, but this is only on the surface and in the form, the opposite result is that it is imbued with deep philosophic theories and has more potential meanings.
