2003-2007 Microsoft Office Client-Server capabilities comparison

* This chart provides a summarized view of the differences in capabilities delivered through the Office client applications when users with Office SharePoint Server 2007, Windows SharePoint Services v3.0 and Exchange Server 2007. Explanation of Ratings: Limited or no access to capability – the is either no access to the capability or the capability can be accessed in a very limited way, generally through an inconvenient workaround. Partial access to capability - some access to the capability is available but not all. Full access to capability – self explanatory The Office Clients refers to the client applications in the Office Professional Plus 2007 and Office Enterprise 2007 suites. * The key capabilities delivered in the area of Enterprise Content Management include: The workflows operations that are standard with the Office SharePoint Server 2007. Approval and Review for example. The automatic application of metadata based on content type associated with an Office SharePoint Server document library. PowerPoint Slide libraries are a powerful way to share slides and keep everyone current. * This slide illustrates the Office 2003 experience with the Office SharePoint Server 2007 built-in workflows. It represents a typical user experience. NOTE: in this slide and in all similar slides the process flow on the left side of the slide is color coded to indicate the application the user would use. In this case, blue for Word, green for a browser and brown for e-mail. Because the user has to upload the document into the SharePoint document library and then initiate the workflow from there, they may be less likely to incorporate this process into their standard work habits. This may diminish usage of this capability and negatively impact document management processes through low adoption. Likewise, a participant in the workflow must move back and forth between e-mail, Word 2003 and the SharePoint site to execute the required tasks. Again this is somewhat
