Philip G. Altbach is Monan professor of higher education and director of the Center for International Higher
Education at Boston College. He currently coordinates the New Century Scholars program for the Fulbright Program.
Altbach’s many books include Comparative Higher Education and Student Politics in America. His edited vol-
umes include International Higher Education: An Encyclopedia and American Higher Education in the 21st
Century. Altbach is also the former editor of the Review of Higher Education.
