( ) 中国比较文学 　2008年第 2期 　 总第 7 1期 　 　 翻译研究 “误译 ”的文化使命与文本 “来生 ”的重构 ————以建国后十七年英美文学翻译为例 卢玉玲 (复旦大学 　外国语学院 ,上海 　200433) 摘要 : 在传统翻译理论中 , “误译 ”往往只是被用来判断译者语言能力 、或揭示译者不忠 的 “失败 ”的语言转换行为 。然而 ,近年来随着翻译研究学科的不断深入发展 ,人们重新 检阅翻译史上的 “误译 ”行为 ,却不断发现这些看似 “失败 ”的语言转换行为 ,往往是负 载着特殊文化使命的译者对文本 “来生 ”的重构 ,是具有历史时效性的改写行为 。本文 以建国后十七年英美文学的翻译为研究对象 ,通过对照新时期以来的新译本 ,揭示 “误 译 ”所隐含的中西文化在特定历史时期的碰撞 、扭曲与变形 ;而新时期以来对 “误译 ”的 不断修正 ,则折射出复杂变迁中的中国面对她 /他者时更为自信而宽容的文化气度 。 关键词 : 误译 ;改写 ; “十七年 ”英美文学翻译 ;文化碰撞 Ab stract: In traditional tran slation theory, m istran slation is either regarded a s a yard stick of the tran slators language ab ility or a p roof of the tran slators betrayal a gain st the au thor. However, w ith the further developm ent of tran slation studie s, a re exam ination of m istran slation s in the tran slation h istory w ill reveal that tho se seem ing ly un successfu l language tran saction s turn ou t to be the recon structed afterlife of the texts encoded w ith the sp ecial cu ltu ral m ission of the tran slator, a rew riting effective in sp ecific h istorical p eriod s. Targeted at the tran slation of English and Am erican lit erature du ring 1949 - 1966 a s well as the new tran slated edition s since 1978, th is p ap er, through a reexam ination of m istran slation s, disclo ses the cu ltu ral conflict and distortion between Ch ina and the W est in th is sp ecific h istorical context; and the re vised m istran slation s after 1978 reflect a different cu ltural attitude of Ch ina toward s other cu lture s wh ich is more confident and tolerant.
