A Brief Analysis of Teaching Environment Affecting Chinese Students’ English Learning 1. Introduction Rural middle school has great difference in resource distribution comparing with middle schools in city. Their schools almost have all kinds of facilities, abundant materials and strong teacher troops, while every condition is opposite in rural middle school. Most of rural primary schools have not carried out English class. So some teachers find that they can’t complete the teaching task by normal class hour. Teaching material leans towards city area, in a word, jumping-off point is low, difficulty is great, content is wide. Teachers and students all can’t adapt to it well. In the most middle school of our country, students’ ability in English learning is very poor. So, what should we do in English teaching that make our students improve their learning ability? My purpose of this study is to find problems, and then stove them by some measures and methods. We should use available resources and explore hidden resources. I hope that by the end of this thesis, teachers will have developed awareness and some techniques in creating necessary resources in order to build an optimal learning environment for students’ learning. 2. Two Main Teaching Environments 2.1 Tangible environment 2.1.1 The concept of tangible environment As we all know, the meaning of the “tangible” is we can see and feel it. Tangible environment is an important factor for students’ English learning. It includes air, temperature, lighting, sound, seating patterns, class size and so on. With the development of the economy and society, English become more and more important in the world. However, our county which lying to the east of Asia is far away from the English-speaking country. Thus, We should create a good environment to learn English. 2.1.2 The content of tangible environments Tangible environments are school, equipments, textbook, and family and so on.
