The Static and Dynamic Characteristics of 5nm Pico Slider Cai Ziliang ,Wang Yujuan ,Chen Yunfei School of Mechanical Engineering,Southeast University,Nanjing (210096 ) E-mail :ziliang.cai@ ,yjwang74@ ,yunfeichen@ Abstract This paper aims to investigate the static and dynamic characteristics of a pico slider with low flying heights at 5nm over a supersmooth disk surface. A two-degree- of freedom model is set up to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the head-air bearing- disk system. Simulations for the air bearing of the head-disk interface under different operation conditions are performed and compared. The static and dynamics parameters that include pressure, stiffness, damping coefficients of the air bearing are presented. The effects of the relative velocity between the slider and disk, flying height, pitch angle and roll angle on the dynamic coefficients and the stability of the slider are analyzed in this paper. It shows that the relative velocity and the flight height (FH) are beneficial to the capacity of the air bearing and the stability of the slider. In contrary, the pitch angle and roll angle have a reversal effect. A spacing of 3.5nm is required for recording densities of 1 Tb/in2.At such a low spacing, maintaining a constant flying height (FH) is apparently vital for the driver’s performance.
